Trieste

A city between the Karst and the sea

Trieste is the most international city of Friuli Venezia Giulia, which lives suspended between a glorious past of "little Vienna on the sea" and a present from a cosmopolitan city. In the city is a succession of sails, showcases of antique dealers, shops and beautiful buildings: on the horizon to the west, stands the white marble profile of Miramare, the romantic castle of Maximilian and Charlotte of Hapsburg. The elegance of the city emerges from its neoclassical, liberty, eclectic and baroque palaces and harmoniously coexist with Roman ruins, eighteenth-century buildings and Hapsburg style.

Free port for the import of coffee since the eighteenth century, the port of Trieste is the most important in the Mediterranean for coffee traffics: here come beans destined not only to local roasters but to those around the world. But coffee and literature in Trieste have always gone hand in hand: numerous and beautiful are the literary cafes, historical places with a retro charm frequented in the past by poets and writers such as James Joyce, Italo Svevo, Umberto Saba.

Trieste is a land of cultural believers: for centuries here have been hosted, among others, the Greek Orthodox and the Serbian Orthodox Church, the synagogue, the Lutheran and the Evangelical Church, the oldest in the city.

But Trieste is also the sea that creeps into the city and along the coast; the famous coast of Trieste where beautiful villas with sea access and private beach are set
